Ramón Bermúdez recently published his report “Evolución de la temperatura en Lanzarote (1950-2008)” which found that the coldest annual average temperature was recorded in 1959 as 19.1ºC and the hottest annual average temperature was in 1997 with 22ºC .
Looking at the seasons these were the annual average highs and lows over the years:
Spring 16.8ºC (1960 & 1968) - 20.9ºC (1997)
Summer 21.1ºC (1959) - 25.4ºC (2004)
Autumn 20ºC (1959) - 23.9ºC (2006)
Winter 16.2ºC (1954) - 19ºC (1997)
The average annual temperature has risen by 1.4ºC over the last 58 years, the forecast for the next century is a rise of 2ºC – 3.5ºC depending upon the effect of the greenhouse gas emissions.
